Think of movies that stunned you by pulling the rug out from under you, movies with key central shocks like The Sixth Sense, The Usual Suspects, The Crying Game and Se7en. Based on the novel of the same name by Sarah Pinborough, Behind Her Eyes is a psychological thriller that starts off as a look into an 'unconventional' love triangle, before advancing into more ambitious territories.

And what begins almost as a romantic comedy finds itself flirting with different genres as it progresses - a bit revenge thriller here, and something else entirely a little later. But nothing in Behind Her Eyes is that basic, not even the geometry of its romantic triangle. In one sense, the story is a basic romantic drama involving a divorced single mom and a couple that's been married for 10 years. Get to the end - the very end - and I all but guarantee you'll be ready to start watching the whole thing all over again. Just promise yourself, in advance, that you'll stay with it, and allow its secrets to slowly reveal themselves.

Language includes "f-k," "f-king," "s-t," and "dick." Characters are complicated and not to be trusted some have supernatural powers that make them threatening and to be feared. One character prescribes psychotropic medication to another and watches her take it as if he's forcing it on her. Characters also smoke cigarettes and drink until they're giggly and relaxed. A character is a heroin addict, and there's a fatal drug overdose. Sexual content is also mature, with lengthy sex scenes and some nudity from the side (and a look at nude male buttocks), as well as rhythmic motions and moans and groans. There are sudden deaths and deadly plots, and viewers will see scary visuals, including images from dreams and dead bodies. Violence is not gory or bloody, but characters are in mortal danger frequently, often from supernatural forces. It explores the fallout of that connection, which goes in utterly unexpected directions.
